How Long Do Penntek Floor Coatings Take to Cure?
Penntek floor coatings take four to eight hours to cure to the point where they can handle light foot traffic, and 24 hours for heavier vehicle traffic (e.g., garage floor coatings or vehicle showrooms). Full chemical resistance and maximum hardness are reached within 72 hours.
Penntek Coatings vs. Epoxy
For decades, epoxy was the go-to surface coating for concrete. Epoxy forms a mechanical bond with concrete and can take up to 5 days to fully cure. Penntek floor coatings, established in 2010, is an advanced three-part polyurea system engineered to quickly form a chemical bond with concrete (notably stronger than a mechanical bond). This, combined with its 98% higher stretch capacity, makes Penntek coatings more flexible and durable, helping prevent cracking, peeling, and chipping. Many industry reports suggest polyurea lasts up to 500% longer than epoxy.
As certified Penntek Floor Coatings installers, we at Anderson Painting are often contacted by home and business owners who notice chips and cracks in their concrete surfaces and worry they will allow moisture and wet weather to seep in and affect their foundations. Homeowners with swimming pools say cracks, chips, and uneven concrete on the deck are a tripping hazard. In industrial areas where oil and chemical spills can happen, damage to concrete surfaces occurs more quickly and can be more severe.
When our contractors install Penntek Floor Coatings, we follow a rigorous methodology. The process begins with a polyurea Mender (basecoat) that fills in dips, cracks, and chips, forming a powerful bond to concrete. This surface is then ground down and leveled using rotating diamond grinding discs.
A second coating, which provides the color and style of flooring, is then added to customize the surface. A final polyaspartic polyurea topcoat is applied for a smooth, flawless finish.

“Anderson Painting applied their Penntek Polyurea floor coating on our 27-year-old garage floor. It looks really fantastic. Owner Nate Anderson is very personable, professional, and knowledgeable.
