Popular Interior Paint Colors for 2023

Another year is on the horizon, which means it’s time to see how paint manufacturers are both setting and responding to current trends – especially if you’re in for some painting or repainting in the coming year. At Anderson Painting, we stick with Sherwin-Williams paints for their quality and versatility. As such, it only makes sense to look over their Colormix® Forecast for 2023 to keep a finger on the pulse of the most popular interior paint colors.
This year, there are 40 Sherwin-Williams interior paint colors in their new Terra collection. The collection features four subcategories: Biome, Lore, Nexus, and Origin, exploring themes of the natural world, inspiration, community, and spirituality, respectively. Rather than go over every color in each of these categories, we’ll break down the general color trends that run through the Terra collection as a whole.
Interior Paint Color Trends for 2023
A Range of Beiges
Neutral tones like off-white, gray, and beige are timeless, always finding a place in a given year’s popular paint color choices. 2023 should prove no different, boasting a broad variety of beige interior paint colors to consider within the Terra collection alone. On the lighter end are choices like Pediment, Shiitake, Kestrel White, and Malted Milk. Some darker beige options include Threshold Taupe, Emerging Taupe, Cool Beige, and Sherwin-William’s Color of the Year: Redend Point, a warmer neutral with pink undertones.
Yellows Both Warm and Muted
You’ll find a small gathering of yellows in this year’s Terra collection, but each one stands out and serves different aesthetic functions for interior painting. White Raisin is on the more beige end of things but offers a touch of yellow for a soft, buttery look. Nugget is more yellow in earnest and just muted enough to keep from being overbearing. Goldfinch kicks up the saturation to provide a sunny option for a more welcoming atmosphere. And Chartreuse incorporates some muted green undertones. Whatever your preference, there’s definitely a place for yellow paint in 2023.
Blues and Greens with the Grays
The Terra collection also offers a handful of grayish tones, but many of these are mixed with touches of green and blue. On the greener side of things, take Evergreen Fog and Homberg Gray. You’ll see some blue within Mineral Gray and Mount Etna. Or, for more straightforward greens and blues, see Kale Green and Indigo, respectively. Lastly, Blue Peacock gives you the best of all worlds, combining green, blue, and dark gray for a dark and rich interior paint choice.
Down to Earth
Terra is Latin for “Earth,” so it’s only fitting that this collection features several earthy tones for home interior painting. Many of the paint colors mentioned above easily fit into this category, but there’s also the clay-like Toile Red, Reddened Earth, and Peppery; the rich brown Carnelian; the sand and stone tones of Foothills, Dhurrie Beige, and Rockwood Medium Brown; and the all-around muted orange, Serape. No matter where you live, there’s probably a place for these natural colors inside your home.
