Painted Brick Exteriors: Adding Charm and Curb Appeal

Are you tired of looking at your homes plain brick exterior? A fresh coat of paint may just be the solution to give the outside of your home the character it’s lacking. However, there are several considerations to take into account before making the decision to update your brick exterior.

One of the positive aspects of painting brick is that it offers a fairly easy fix with a major transformation. A fresh coat of paint can really allow the homeowner to express their personality. For example, shades of white usually provide a crisp, clean look while color options such as gray or navy blue may create a more dramatic feel. Before taking the plunge, it is important to know that you must be completely committed to painted brick. There’s no doubt that painted brick looks great but once you start the process it is nearly impossible to return painted brick to its original condition. There is also the possibility that painted brick may require cleaning on a more regular basis than a plain brick surface. Unfortunately, dirt and grime are more noticeable on painted brick so be prepared to clean your home’s exterior from time to time. However, we do believe what you gain in curb appeal is definitely worth a little extra effort in maintenance.

Our Painted Brick Portfolio

Below are just of few of the projects where Triangle homeowner’s have entrusted Anderson Painting to transform the exterior of their brick homes. Let’s take a look!

I just recently spoke with a client who was in the last phase of the renovation of their 1960’s Raleigh home. After a complete overhaul of the home’s interior the last step of their project was to tackle the outdated exterior. The client expressed her excitement in the fact that the home’s exterior would finally compliment all the work her and her husband had completed inside. Unlike an interior renovation where a home can be gutted to the studs and new, modern materials can be installed, a brick exterior does not allow homeowners to remove and replace the old product. Therefore, the most practical solution to outdated brick exteriors is a fresh coat of paint in a new modern color palette. That is exactly what these clients chose to do and we believe it gave this 70+ year old home just the update it needed.

In 2017 we completed a brick exterior makeover on this 1990’s home which is also located in Raleigh. The homeowner’s of this project were looking to go with a bold color and decided on Sherwin Williams Grizzle Gray as their color choice. On the outer window trim we applied Sherwin Williams Passive and the inner window trim was painted with Sherwin Williams Snow Bound. The home owner’s chose a bright green to serve as the focal point of the front exterior. After applying a fresh coat of paint this home definitely makes a statement and is the talk of the neighborhood.

This home was painted in a neutral off-white creating a timeless look that will give this home great curb appeal for years to come. The color choice for this project complements the homes stately and sophisticated architecture. We love the way this classic design turned out.
